“Living by Faith” is a powerful Christian guide that explores biblical examples and practical lessons on trusting God’s unseen hand through trials, doubts, and victories.
Reference: Genesis 12:1-2, New African Bible.
'The Lord said to Abram: Go forth from your land, your relatives, and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.'
Imagine the weight of what God asked Abraham to do. He was living comfortably in Ur of the Chaldeans, surrounded by family, friends, and familiarity. Yet, one day, God called him to leave everything behind—not for a mapped-out future but for an unknown destination. There were no detailed instructions, no visible landmarks—just the promise that if he obeyed, he would be blessed beyond measure.
Most people prefer certainty. We want to see the full plan before taking the first step. However, faith does not work that way. Faith requires movement even when the path ahead is unclear. Abraham’s response is striking—he does not question, negotiate, or delay. He simply obeys.
Faith That Walks Without Seeing
As Abraham packed his belongings, gathered his servants, and set out with his wife, Sarah, and his nephew, Lot, he had no clue where he was going. The journey must have been filled with discomfort—dusty roads, strange lands, and unfamiliar faces. He left behind the security of his father’s house for a promise that had not yet materialised.
Many of us find ourselves in similar positions. We feel God nudging us towards something greater—perhaps a career shift, a mission, or a call to serve—but we hesitate because we do not see the full picture. What if we fail? What if things do not work out? Yet, like Abraham, we are called to step out, trusting that the unseen hand of God will guide us.
Challenges on the Journey
Faith does not mean an easy road. Abraham encountered famine (Genesis 12:10, New African Bible), faced conflicts (Genesis 13:7-8, New African Bible), and struggled with doubts when years passed without a child (Genesis 15:2, New African Bible). Yet, through it all, he remained on the journey, believing that the One who called him was faithful.
This is the reality of faith—it does not eliminate challenges but gives us the strength to endure them. The journey of faith often feels like walking in the dark, yet we hold onto the promise that God is leading us, step by step.
The Blessing of Obedience
Because Abraham obeyed, he became the father of nations. His faith was not just for himself but for generations to come. Through his lineage, God fulfilled His greatest promise—the coming of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.
Faith is never just about us. When we step out in obedience, our trust in God impacts those around us—our families, communities, and even future generations.
Living by Faith Today
What is God asking you to step into? Perhaps it is a new career, a ministry, a mission, or a decision that requires trust in His unseen hand. Like Abraham, you may not see the destination, but God sees it clearly.
Faith does not require us to understand everything; it requires us to trust the One who does. The same God who led Abraham is still leading today. He calls us to move, not because we have all the answers, but because He is faithful to fulfil His promises.

A Prayer for Trusting God in the Unknown
Heavenly Father, You are the God who calls us into the unknown, yet You never leave us alone. Like Abraham, I desire to trust You completely, even when I cannot see the way ahead. Strengthen my faith to step forward in obedience, knowing that Your promises never fail. When doubts arise, remind me of Your faithfulness. When challenges come, give me the endurance to keep walking. Lead me, Lord, by Your unseen hand, and let my faith not only shape my journey but also bless those around me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
